About Turbo Tax

Turbo Tax has been offering its services since the 1980s, and it’s perhaps the most popular brand in the tax service industry. Part of the reason why it’s so popular is that Intuit owns TurboTax, while Intuit also owns the extremely popular QuickBooks software that millions of people use. It’s such a convenience knowing that TurboTax and QuickBooks work together seamlessly.

TurboTax is also popular because it’s user-friendly. The step-by-step guidance it offers is straightforward and easy to understand. There’s minimal jargon, so you won’t ever feel over your head.

There’s a free filing option with TurboTax, so you won’t have to pay the brand anything to file your federal return (and 1 state return). This works well with just simple tax returns with form 1040. The features include easy data importation, accurate checks for errors, explanations for refunds, and deductions for dependents.

If you need to use any other forms or if you want to itemize your deductions with Schedule A, then you’ll have to go with a paid package. The Deluxe package is great for homeowners and for those who really want to maximize deductions. Extra features here include a calculator with bells and whistles, so you can factor in your charity donations.

The Premier package works best for investors, and for those earning from rental property. It concentrates on investment and rental property income, with accurate stock reporting and refinancing deductions.

The most expensive is the Self-Employed package, but it’s still rather affordable. This is the best option for contractors, freelancers, small business owners, and consultants. It offers access to experts on self-employment tax, and it really optimizes business deductions.

For many, TurboTax is the best option because so many people are using it. It’s just reassuring that way, and you feel you made the right choice once you experience how easy everything is with TurboTax. While TurboTax doesn’t have any physical locations as everything’s online, you still have access to experts like CPAs should you need the human touch.
